Dirt…..and until a little while ago, the ice from the birdbath………..

Lilac shoots that have taken root, and I let grow, as it is still my intention to take some of them when we move.  When is that ? Who knows.  But some of my big lilac tree will come too.

Baby starlings gamboling about in the lilac shoots.  Hiding from my bad chickens, who would make them into a starling snack in an instant given the chance.  Bad chickens !

This kitten has never been under the lilac trees.  This is Little Girl, one of the kittens that Kona had two years ago that I hand raised.  Two years ! Where does the time GO ???

Little Girl two years ago today 🙂

Kona the wild cat, who eats dry cat food, or canned at times.  Who does not have the inclination nor the agility to catch the starlings and snack on them.  She lies there and watches, I think secretly rooting for the chickens to make a catch.  Once again, who knows ?

Tonight is the finale of the Biggest Loser.  Fantastic show, very inspirational.  I email with one of the current contestants, a big fellow who began his journey to lose weight at 526 lbs.  One foot in the grave, and he is only 30 years old.  So far, he had lost 204 lbs at the Biggest Loser ranch, where they do all their training…….now they have been home for a while, and tonight the top 3 will see who lost the highest percentage of weight since the beginning, and be crowned the “Biggest Loser of season 9”.  Plus gather $ 250,000.  Yea !  Love this show.  Any of them are deserving of the title, as they have already won, they have saved their own lives by changing their lives.  So, go Michael !  Good luck to everyone.

Enjoy your day all !

The trees were frozen a number of times since starting to blossom.  Perhaps 2/3 of them were lost, but there are still some there !  The weather is fabulous (making me wonder where I am living right now) and the trees are working hard of getting those blooms open.  There are trees in the nearby town already blooming !!!  I am off to help a friend with a goat who needs a haircut.

Updates soon, hope all is well in your worlds !

The almost local (well 75 miles from us, but they came out to do the story) television station ABC affiliate did this story.

Since then, the two kittens were recovered, as well as two adults.  That leaves the mom cat missing and another adult.  What a sad thing.  The kittens are being cared for and I should have photos soon I hope !

The weather here…….well two days ago, it was snowing, horizontal, in 30 mph winds.  Interesting.  The lilac trees have taken a huge hit, there are some blooms left that are hanging on, but most have turned black and disappeared due to the lovely snow and freezing temps here in MAY.  Oh well.

The owls, one had come out of the nest and was on the ground that I got to a wildlife rehab group.  The remaining two babies fledged and three days ago they were all gone.  Quiet for several nights.  Then last night, I heard the familier hoot hoo hoo hoot and they are in our neighbors tree.  Funny they are so busy and noisy, and I missed them when they were gone wherever they had gone to.

Enjoy your day all, hope all is right with your world !

My friend is the animal control officer and oversees the animal shelter here.  She has done this job for many years, and puts her heart and soul into it.  Goes to great lengths to find breed rescues to take dogs to give them another chance.  Drives long distances on her own time and money to place small dogs or wild things into the capable hands of rehabbers.  It isn’t just a job, this has been her life for a very long time.  It is always comfort first for the animals.  Makes sure the dogs have blankets and chews in the kennels.  The cats all have blankets and toys.   She gives them all the best life possible while they are in her care.   But yesterday something terrible happened.  The other workers were horrified to find that the shelter had been broken into, and along with the usual vandal stuff, there are cats missing.  Stuff nightmares are made of.  Worse still, the mascot cat, a lovely cat named Hailey suffered heart failure and had to be euthanized.  My mind won’t let this rest, I woke up with that tremor inside, the knowledge that something terrible had happened, and remembered.   Trying to get the big city TV stations to give some info on their telecasts.    Small town.  It is our best home that people will talk.  I have been told since cats were injured and died that it is now a felony.

Prayers for the cats that are missing…….Hailey we will always remember you, the big constantly purring cat……
