Bye bye goslings !

Bye bye goslings !

How cool these goslings were.  It is always such a temptation to be friendly wtih any wild thing – but when releasing them to the wild, the last thing that is needed is big wild things imprinted on humans.  There is an area not far from here.   It is called the Wildlife Preserve.  To me, I thought that meant that the wild things are SAFE there.  Nope, they allow hunting there !  How does that make any sense whatsoever ?????  A poorly trained wildlife employee there took care of a baby deer, then found a second one.  He bottle raised them together, and just assumed that they would go and do deer things once grown enough.  Not.  They both went to people and in case you don’t know, deer will rear up on their hind legs like horses – and these Bambi’s have SHARP HOOVES !  Idiot wildlife employee.  They both came to a bad end sadly, all because of a person thinking they were doing right by them.  Deer are very difficult to raise, while they are ruminants like goats, they are just plain touchy.  Each year fawns are picked up by well meaning folks, who don’t know that the doe leaves the babies for most of the day well hidden usually.  Of course there are some who leave them by the porch of mobile homes in housing tracts……..sure wish I had the photo I took years ago of that !  The fawn was there most of the day, then mom deer came and took it away.  Beautiful things, but care needs to be used when around them. Ok, enough of the deer advisory.  I just wanted to get the gosling photo up.  My friend the wildlife gal now has one more goose so these will be older brothers or sisters to it.  I hope they grow and we get to go release them again this year.  I have photos somewhere and will have to find them, very impressive birds they grow to be.

Dinner calling, hope your day went well !
